The Kootenai Environmental Alliance is one of the oldest membership-supported, nonprofit conservation groups in Idaho. It has been working to protect and restore the environment of the Coeur d'Alene River Basin and the Idaho Panhandle since 1972. KEA's base in Kootenai County is home to some of Idaho's biggest mining corporations, and the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, one of the largest timber-producing forests east of Washington's Cascade Mountains.
Kootenai Environmental Alliance became a Brainerd Foundation grantee in 2008.
